A Tara Rokpa Weekend – Workshop (Follow up from previous)
With Sara Wass
The Tara Rokpa Method
The Tara Rokpa method, developed by Akong Rinpoche, seeks to build a bridge between eastern and western traditions across time and space. Akong Rinpoche always emphasised that compassion for ourselves and others was the foundation of his work; thus a deep exploration of limitless compassion as the key agent of healing remains at the heart of Tara Rokpa Therapy.
Tara Rokpa is based on the principle that the human mind carries its own dignity and healing capacity which can never be permanently damaged or destroyed and is an experiential process in which participants are encouraged to become their own therapist.
What is Back to Beginnings?
Back to Beginnings is part of a unique system for healing the mind that was developed by Akong Rinpoche over many years of working with those who came to seek his help and advice, first at ‘Samye Ling Tibetan Centre’ in Scotland and later all over the world.
“Back to Beginnings is one of the first stages of Tara Rokpa Therapy. You complete a particular way of reviewing your life story in a certain, systematic way. In this remembering we go three times through our lives starting with the present. In a way you sweep through the whole of your life and you try to look at everything. You don’t say this is important or not important or focus on traumatic events only. You include everyday events, for example what shoes you wore at age six or what clothes you wore or food you ate or didn’t. What you get is a feeling for the totality of your life. It helps you appreciate the extraordinary range of experiences which makes each of us who we are.”
This remembering is aided by the relaxations which make up a fair amount of the whole process. Much of it is done through free painting and other art materials. Some people write, some paint through their lives, and somehow, we come to a different way of relating to ourselves.
This April workshop will explore the role projections play in our lives. Visual portraiture and the Mirror exercises will be used as the tools of inquiry. The Mirror exercises can be found in the book by Akong Rinpoche ‘Taming the Tiger’.
Friday 25th April (5pm) to Sunday 27th April (approx. 3pm)
In Dublin the Back to Beginnings group started to form and gather interested people last year already. There have been several weekend workshops alongside regular monthly meetings. The group is now closed to new participants.
