A Tara Rokpa Therapy -Weekend with Brion Sweeney

Friday 10th May 7pm – 9pm

Saturday 11th May 10am – 4pm and Sunday 12th May 10.30am – 3.30pm

Back to Beginnings is a therapeutic process which forms the first stage of Tara Rokpa Therapy, a method for training our mind, developed by Akong Rinpoche.

Akong Rinpoche, a Tibetan lama and meditation master, was a founding director of Kagyu Samye Ling, Tibetan Buddhist Monastery and Centre for World Peace and Health in Scotland. His training in Tibetan Medicine and his unique understanding of the human mind led him to formulate this therapeutic method which combines Eastern and Western approaches to creating physical and mental balance in daily life.

The Back to Beginnings phase involves a complete personal exploration of our life to date, in preparation for living more fully in the present moment. The methods for this process include reviewing our life several times through writing and through the use of art materials, altering with a series of visualisation practices that have been developed directly from Mahayana Buddhism, to aid relaxation and help access deeper aspects of our being. In addition, Self-massage and the option of sharing massage with a partner is introduced – all fully clothed.

Please note, art materials are used for relaxation and enjoyment, and are a playful way to help access elusive memories; there is no skill needed or expectation of ‘being able to paint’.

Brion Sweeney will give a public talk to introduce the Tara Rokpa Therapy on Friday evening at Kagyu Samye Dzong Buddhist Centre and outline the method. This will be followed by a two day workshop over Saturday and Sunday for those who are interested to experience this method themselves.

Tea and coffee will be provided. Attendees can bring a packed lunch; there are also several local cafes within short walking distance.

Brion Sweeney is a retired consultant psychiatrist having previously worked in Ireland in the National Health Service in Dublin. In addition, he holds a master’s degree in psychotherapy from University College Dublin. Brion undertook his own experiential training in Tara Rokpa Therapy (TRT) under the guidance of Akong Rinpoche who had developed TRT to help people unfold their potential. He became a Tara Rokpa therapist in 1992 and thereafter worked with other TRT therapists helping to refine Tara Therapy. More recently Brion spent three years in retreat under the guidance of Tai Situ Rinpoche.
