Film Screening

On the evenings of

January 17th, February 7th and February 21st 2025

Ani Paldron will present a short season of rarely seen films. Depending on interest, this will hopefully be the start of a series of regular Dharma related screenings at Dublin Samyedzong.

January 17th at 7pm: “108 Yaks: A Journey of Love and Freedom.” (34 min)

When Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche hears that 108 yaks are doomed to be sold for slaughter in a remote part of Nepal, he asks his student, Geshe Thubten Jinpa, to save their lives and bring them to a safe haven near the Tibetan border. This is a record of an extraordinary and unique journey undertaken by Geshe Thubten Jinpa and a group of 22 Sherpas and volunteers as they herd the recalcitrant yaks across rugged mountain passes, through narrow valleys and across freezing rivers to reach their new home. This documentary is a collaboration between Geshe Thubten Jinpa, the Sherpas and a group of Singaporean volunteers.

February 7th at 7pm: “Amongst White Clouds.” (Dir. Edward A. Burger. 1 hour 26 min)

Inspired by Bill Porter’s encounters with Chinese hermits, Ed Burger  sets out for the Zhongnan Mountains on a quest to find monks and hermits  who are  living embodiments of the Tang tradition of Han Shan (Cold Mountain.) His film resonates with the insights and simplicity of their way of life.

“I’ve lived on cold mountain so many years,
following the way of forests and springs
no one will visit
just clouds floating by.

Grass for a bed
blue sky for a quilt
happy with a rock for a pillow
let the world go about its changes.”

Han Shan (Cold Mountain)

February 21st at 7pm: “Living Buddha” (Dir. Clemems Kuby. 1h 48min)

“Living Buddha” is the story of one of Tibet’s greatest and most revered spiritual teachers. Guided by the prediction letter left by HH the 16th Karmapa, the film makers travel with a search party to a poor nomadic village where they identify Orgyen Trinley Dorje as his long awaited reincarnation. They also travel to Tsurphu, where the young Karmapa is enthroned in front of a vast crowd, and where he gives his first public blessing.
