Lhabab Duchen is one of the four ‘Wheel Days’ in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar. This year it occurs on 20th November. According to the story, the Buddha had been teaching celestial beings, including his mother, in one of the god realms. A disciple begged him to return to the human world, and so Shakyamuni descended from the god realm on three ladders made of gold and gems.

As with all Wheel Days, the effects of all thoughts, words and actions are multiplied many millions of times, so it is an opportunity to perform good deeds, think good thoughts and speak kind words.

To mark the occasion we will perform the powerful practice of Tsetar, or Life Release, on Saturday 12th November (please note date change – apologies for any inconvenience) by liberating animals destined to be killed. Everyone can participate in this meritorious action by joining us, at the Centre, 56 Inchicore Road, Kilmainham, Dublin 8 (particularly if you have a car and can help with lifts) at 1pm or alternatively at Wrights of Howth, Howth Pier at 2pm, where we will try to buy as many creatures as possible for liberation. It is a wonderful thing to do – we have liberated hundreds over the past few years and the general public are always intrigued and incredibly supportive of the action. If you are unable to attend you can still participate by making a donation to the ‘Animal Release Fund’ by sending us a cheque/postal order payable to Kagyu Buddhism Ireland or you can drop cash into the Centre. Mark any payments ‘Animal Release Fund’.

And use the power of the day by performing acts of kindness – make a donation to charity, visit an elderly neighbour, have a chat or bring them shopping, pay for the cup of coffee of the person behind you in the queue, the possibilities are endless! It’s up to you!
